Sixteen free typefaces I drew in code, from pixel faces to a Didone.

Stem 7 started as my logo and the Dive Club liked it, so I kept going: two new widths of it, then fifteen families that are not Stem 7 at all.

Most of them share one of two skeletons. Hoop's lines and arcs, stroked with a round pen, give a geometric sans; the same skeleton with octagonal bowls and a broad nib at 38 degrees gives a textura; squeezed, sheared or cut by knife lines it gives the display faces. Pip 57's 5×7 bitmaps give the dot, corridor and stencil faces.

What I learned: a typeface is a construction rule plus a list of exceptions. The rule gets you 90% of the alphabet in an afternoon; the exceptions (a three-cell M, a U whose right stem is thin, a v that pathops silently dropped) are where the week goes.
